On Thursday, the Higher Population Council concluded a three-day training workshop on the “mechanisms of integrating child marriage in the plans of civil society organizations and local associations”.

Attended by representatives of concerned CSOs and local associations, the workshop aimed to build the capacity of participants in the mechanisms of integrating the issue of child marriage into plans through the central and diverse role they play in raising awareness, capacity building, advocacy and service delivery. It also aimed to introduce mechanisms of utilizing media, communications and social media in limiting child marriage.

The workshop included a presentation by HPC Programs Unit Director, Dr. Sawsan Al Da’aja, on the concept, data and statistics of child marriage in Jordan. On the other hand, the director of family reconciliation and mediation at the Supreme Judge Department, Dr. Salahedin Al Shuwaiat, gave a lecture on the religious perspective (concept and conditions) of marriage, while member of the board of trustees of the National Council for Family Affairs, Dr. Mumen Al Hadidi, talked about the health and psychological implications of child marriage, and the head of the gender section at the Ministry of Social Development, Muna Rufou, talked about the economic and social consequences of child marriage.

Believing in the importance of CSOs and local associations in reducing child marriage, HPC held this workshop as part of the National Action Plan for Reducing Marriage of Females under the Age of 18 (2018-2019) which was the outcome of joint national efforts of all stakeholders.
