A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday at the headquarters of the Higher Population Council between the Council, represented by its Secretary-General, Professor Dr. Issa Al-Masarweh, and the Broccoli Center for Capacity Development, represented by its General Director, Mr. Imad Al-Shihab. The MoU aims to formalize cooperation between both parties on the best approaches to strengthening joint collaboration in sustainable development, in alignment with their strategic objectives.
Professor Dr. Issa Al-Masarweh, Secretary-General of the Higher Population Council, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in fostering knowledge and experience exchange in the fields of population and development. This supports the Council’s orientations and work programs related to policy formulation, strategies, and action plans aimed at altering demographic trends to enhance development efforts based on best practices. Additionally, it includes monitoring, evaluating, and advocating for these policies while raising awareness about them. The partnership also seeks to integrate population dynamics, issues, challenges, and opportunities into educational, social, economic, and political planning frameworks at both the national and sectoral levels. Moreover, it aims to enhance national capacities through coordination with partners to achieve sustainable development, justice, and equal opportunities for all.
For his part, Mr. Imad Al-Shihab, General Director of the Broccoli Center for Capacity Development, expressed his appreciation for this collaboration with the Council, highlighting its significance in supporting the work programs and strategic plans implemented by both parties. He emphasized the Center’s commitment to investing in human and intellectual capital, with innovation, creative thinking, and equitable empowerment of all social groups as key drivers.
According to the memorandum, the key areas of cooperation between both parties include exchanging knowledge and expertise in the fields of population and development, as well as empowering individuals and communities. Additionally, they will work together to set priorities and common interests related to sustainable development and the empowerment of target groups. The partnership will also focus on implementing joint projects and programs benefiting target groups, supporting the development of research, studies, policy briefs, and evidence-based policy papers to aid decision-making and advocacy. Furthermore, both parties will collaborate on submitting joint funding proposals to donors by identifying suitable funding opportunities and applying for them together to support mutually relevant projects and programs. The agreement also includes allocating grants for initiatives that promote sustainable development and empower target groups.
