The Higher Population Council launched the knowledge platform for Reproductive Health for young people "Derby", during the ceremony held on Wednesday with the participation of relevant national authorities.
The platform, established by the Higher Population Council with the support of the United Nations Population Fund, aims to raise awareness among community members, especially young men and women, and improve their reproductive health by providing an integrated package of information and data.
The Secretary General of the Higher Population Council, Dr. Issa Al-Masarwah, stressed that the establishment of the platform by the council comes as the National Authority for all issues and demographic information related to development, and within the framework of its continuous efforts to establish awareness of population issues, including reproductive health issues in society, especially among young men and women, who are considered one of the main pillars in Jordanian society, but they do not receive the necessary attention and lack reproductive health information, and they are the most in need of reproductive health services that are often not met, and the most vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, in addition to the presence of special biological and psychological During adolescence.
He pointed out that providing an integrated package of information related to reproductive health for young men and women is considered essential in helping them to make the right decisions regarding their reproductive health and enabling them to implement these decisions. The age of youth is the opportunity to learn sound health practices. Parents can also take advantage of this information to provide the necessary advice and advice to their children and raise their awareness of the required form in this area, since the family is the main pillar of education and upbringing.
For her part, UNFPA population and Development Program Officer Layali Abusir stressed that UNFPA has been seeking since the beginning of its establishment to support policies and programs that raise awareness and knowledge of young people in reproductive health issues and provide health and community services, as they are directly related to the growth and empowerment of young people as the main engine of the desired change and a prosperous future.
To ensure the support of adolescents and young people in their journey from childhood to adulthood and youth, what is required is an integrated set of policies and programs that address the human being as a unit and pay close attention to each of the national context in which young people live, taking into account the relevant international standards .for this, countries must pay attention to education and training, health, social welfare and Human Rights, cooperate with young leaders, remove restrictions on the progress of young people, effectively address the main obstacles, and pave the way to adulthood with opportunities and support.
During the ceremony, the director of the information and Communication Unit of the Supreme Population Council, Etaf Al-Hadid, reviewed the importance and objectives of the knowledge platform, indicating that the platform is a major source for providing data and information on reproductive health and presenting it in an attractive and creative manner suitable for young men and women and all segments of society. The platform also allows the possibility of asking any question that stops one of its visitors on topics related to reproductive health, and it is answered by a committee of experts with specialists, and then the answer is sent to the person concerned, so that these questions are dealt with confidentially without informing anyone.
The director of the Programs Unit at the Supreme Population Council, Dr. Sawsan Al-Dajah, addressed the reproductive health components of the platform, which include the concept of reproductive health, gender, adolescence, sexually transmitted diseases, violence, marriage readiness, reproductive regulation, safe motherhood, tumors of the reproductive system for men and women, infertility, and the age of hope. The platform official at the council, engineer Eid Al-Manaseer reviewed the mechanisms and means of using the platform. During the ceremony, the experiences of young people in using the platform were also reviewed.
