On Thursday, HPC conducted three debates for youth on “influencing a positive approach towards women’s political empowerment by decision-makers, local and public authorities and youth in the municipalities of greater Ajloun, Madaba and Mahis. The debates were conducted in collaboration with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) with support from HIVOS and through the Princess Basma Centers for Human Developments in the governorates of Ajloun, Madaba and Balqa.

HPC Assistant Secretary General, Rania Al Abbadi, stated that these debates are part of the advocacy and mobilization efforts to achieve the goals of the ““Decentralizing Government and Centralizing Gender in Jordanian Municipal Councils”, which HPC is implementing in partnership with HIVOS and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Abbadi also noted that the debates tackle the key aspects of women’s political participation and the mechanisms for setting up a conducive social environment to empower women by incentivizing youth and enhancing their role in supporting women. In addition, the debates address the key challenges faced by women in the field of political empowerment and engagement in public life.

Attended by members of municipal councils in the targeted regions, the three debates gave youth from these regions the chance to discuss the ability of women to positively influence political life.
