The Higher Population Council participates in a meeting to exchange experiences between member states of the Arab Council for Population and Development

The Higher Population Council participated in the coordination meeting for the exchange of experiences and knowledge between the member states of the Arab Council for Population and Development held on May 17 and 18, 2023 in Iraq. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Planning, League of Arab States/ Technical Secretariat of the Arab Council for Population Development, and the United Nations Population Fund.

The meeting aimed to exchange experiences and knowledge on population issues at the Arab level and inform the participating Arab states of the experience of Iraq in updating the National Document for Population Policy 2023  and the procedures for implementing international commitments and developing population resources.

During the meeting, Mrs. Rania Al-Abbadi, HPC Assistant Secretary-General gave an overview of some of HPC expertise and experiences, as she presented to participants the Jordanian plan to implement the commitments of the Nairobi Summit for the years (2021-2030), in addition to the issue of the population opportunity in Jordan and the policies for its realization and investment.

Recommendations of participants specified continuing coordination and communication between Arab countries in the field of preparing population policies and following up on their implementation, adopting national action plans to control population growth in accordance with the resources of each country as well as strengthening the role of civil society organizations and the private sector in executing population programs.

Recommendations also involved developing sustainable economic and social policies to confirm and benefit from the high proportion of the working age population, in addition to building the capacity of workers in the field of preparing annual periodic reports related to the follow-up of international commitments.
