The Higher Population Council Honors the Winners of the Youth Short Videos Competition on Population and Development Issues

On Wednesday, The Higher Population Council (HPC), in cooperation with Luminous University College, honored the winners and participants of the Youth Short Videos Competition on population and development issues, under the patronage of HPC Secretary General, Dr. Abla Amawi, and the General Director of Luminous University College, Yazan Jarandeh.

The competition which was carried out by the Higher Population Council and incorporation with Luminous University College and participated by the students of Luminous University College, aimed at raising youth awareness on population and development issues, in addition to  empowering them as youths play a major part in the achievement of inclusive sustainable development. The competition also addressed different axes relating to leadership and creativity, child marriage, youth, poverty and unemployment, and women’s economic participation.

Student Ibrahim Al-Ammar was awarded the first prize , the second prize was awarded to student Mohammed Al-Qaisi, and the third prize for student Jumana Al-Durr .

During the ceremony, Dr. Abla Amawi, the Secretary General of the Higher Population Council, stressed on the importance of the Jordanian youth’s pivotal role in supporting population and development issues, as they are  a basic component for  creating a future of prosperity, emphasizing also on the importance of involving the youth in the various social activities, programs and initiatives that seek to achieve society development..

Dr. Amawi pointed out that HPC’s support of the youth conforms with the Royal Directives stressing on the need to nurturing the youth, demolishing obstacles they face and securing their needs in order for them to be an active members of the society by participation in the planning =policies and programs.

Dr. Amawi  draw the attention on the fact that the implementation of this competition in cooperation with Luminus University College is an embodiment of the HPC’s partnership principle which is adopted with various national institutions to support population issues and policies, as participation in implementing activities and initiatives supporting  these issues  serve the achievement of the desired sustainable development.

The Academic Director at Luminous University College, Muhannad Al-Desouki, stated that the Luminous College considers strategic partnerships as a path to introduce its students’ skills to the labor market. Noting out that some of the partnerships including the one with the HPC  ranked prestigious place due to its national and social aspects, which enabled the students to perform a very important role by providing artistic and media productions.

The Head of the Film-making Department at Luminous University College, Marwan Yassin, praised the partnership with the HPC and its impact on the competition implementation, which provided the Jordanian youth with the opportunity to express their views on the competition’s topics, and engorging this generation and future generations to interact with the needs of their local communities in order to find contemporary practical solutions, in addition to the advancement of the Jordanian society.

The jury for the competition consisted of: Adnan Merhej / an external judge specialized in filmmaking, Marwan Yassin / Head of the Department of Filmmaking at Luminous University College, and Mohammed Al-Lahham /  Television Director.
