Dr. Abla Amawi appointed as HPC Secretary General

Dr. Abla Amawi has assumed her duties as the secretary general of the Higher Population Council.

Dr. Amawi was the UNDP country director in Pakistan, and head of program and senior policy advisor at the UNDP Program of Assistance for the Palestinian People for rebuilding and youth development in Gaza.

Prior to that, Dr. Amawi was the country representative of UNWomen in Sudan and Egypt and a governance, rule of law and conflict management team leader and senior governance advisor in Palestine. She also served as a regional director of public administration reform and capacity development in the Arab States, an assistant resident representative in Jordan and Sudan for human development, and an assistant professor at Georgetown University.

Dr. Amawi holds an M.A and phD from the School of Foreign Service - Georgetown University and has authored numerous publications on political economy, gender and human development.

The HPC secretary general serves as the representative of the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development which hosts the HPC general secretariat.
