

On Wednesday, the Higher Council for Population, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, held an introductory meeting on the status of reproductive health in Jordan and relevant composite national and international indicators. The meeting was attended by members of the Technical Committee for the National Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy (2020-2030) and representatives from national partner institutions providing services and information related to this strategy.
According to a statement from the Council, the Secretary-General of the Council, Dr. Issa Al-Masarwah, said during his opening of the meeting that Jordan is working in partnership with official and civil institutions and in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund to support the efforts of these entities in responding to the needs of citizens at all stages of life. This is to protect and enhance their sexual and reproductive health in accordance with the objectives of the National Sexual and Reproductive Health Strategy, which was approved by the Council of Ministers and tasked relevant parties with its implementation.
Al-Masarwah explained that the meeting's objective was to keep the members of the Strategy's Technical Committee and the Council's partners informed of the latest data related to the status and needs of reproductive health. This is to guide their programs and services toward a responsive approach that addresses these needs. He also reviewed the status of sexual and reproductive health in Jordan.
The Assistant Secretary-General for Planning and Follow-up at the Council, Rania Al-Abbadi, presented the relevant composite international indicators related to health and reproductive health and their role in monitoring and evaluating performance.
In her turn, the Acting Head of the Gender and Strategic Partnerships Section at the Ministry of Education, Khitam Malqawi, stated that UNICEF in Jordan aims to adopt 21 priority indicators connected to adolescent girls' health, and a task force from national institutions is working to adapt suitable indicators from these to align with the national context.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants presented their proposals to contribute to enhancing the direction of programs and interventions in a manner responsive to the needs discussed during the meeting.
