During the meeting, Professor Dr. Issa Almasarweh, HPC Secretary-General, reviewed the current demographic and family scene in Jordan and its current and expected impacts on all Jordanian sectors and needs, pointing out the importance of the role of parties in achieving a comprehensive national development.
Dr. Almasarweh also spoke about HPC’s aspirations that parties incorporate (within their programs) the development challenges related to the demographic situation. This is because HPC acknowledges the significant role of the programs presented by the parties in preparation for their participation in the upcoming elections, and the parties’ continuous endeavour to establish the groundwork of democratic political action based on the strategic priorities of Jordan founded on statistical evidence and the extensive participation of the people through civil society institutions led by political parties.
Dr. Rula Al-Haroub, Secretary General of the Jordanian Labour Party, emphasized the importance of HPC initiative in holding meetings with the parties to focus on national demographic issues, commending the important role played by HPC in providing information, studies and statistics to civil society organizations and partner institutions and coming up with recommendations, reports and studies that serve the public interest and the demographic concerns. During the meeting, discussions about aspects and elements of the demographic situation of the population took place where Dr. Almasarweh answered the questions and inquiries of the audience.
This meeting comes within the work plan of the Higher Population Council for the year 2024, which includes holding meetings with Jordanian political parties to review the demographic scene in Jordan and discuss ways to address all relevant challenges. Through these dialogue meetings, HPC seeks to inform the political parties of the recent and projected demographic changes in Jordan and their impacts on all social, economic, and environmental sectors and needs in a manner that interprets the royal vision that calls for communication, coordination, and cooperation between official and civil society institutions.
