Amawi highlights Role of Liaison Officers in Integrating Demographic Dividend Indicators in National and Local Strategies and Plans

HPC, in collaboration with the Department of Statistics and with the support of UNFPA, concluded a training course for demographic dividend liaison officers at various national entities. The training introduced mechanisms of measuring the performance indicators of the demographic dividend policies as well as sustainable development goals pertaining to regional population and development issues.  

On that occasion, HPC secretary general, Dr. Abla Amawi, stressed the important role of demographic dividend liaison officers at stakeholder entities in ensuring that demographic dividend attainment indicators are integrated in local and national plans and strategies by all stakeholders.

 

Amawi pointed out the need for liaison officers to gain the necessary skills to measure health, economic and social demographic dividend policy indicators as well as the sustainable development indicators pertaining to population and development to assess progress towards attaining and investing in the demographic dividend as per the various scenarios.

 

On the other hand, advisor to the director general of the Department of Statistics, Mohammad Al Assaf, said that DOS continuously seeks to   improve and disseminate statistical data collection methods and procedures through close cooperation and coordination with different stakeholders. He also noted the importance of enhancing the capacities of the demographic dividend liaison officers in measuring social and demographic indicators which play a role in demographic, social, economic and political changes.

UNFPA program director, Layla Abuseer, said that UNFPA provides technical support and assistance to develop and monitor demographic indicators within the global context of sustainable development. She explained that UNFPA has adopted regional indicators win collaboration with statisticians, demography experts and decision-makers and highlighted the importance of cooperation with HPC to support national efforts of addressing population-related challenges in Jordan.

The three-day training aimed to build the capacity of participants in how to measure the performance indicators of the monitoring and evaluation plan for achieving and investing in the demographic dividend and introduce methods of measuring health, education, economic and demographic indicators which are necessary to guarantee the accuracy and comprehensiveness of indicators and standardize the methods, approaches and formulae for measuring indicators across all stakeholders.
