The Higher Population Council discussed today the updated Demographic Opportunity Policies Document, the updated National Follow-up Plan to Monitor and Evaluate Progress in the Achievement of and Investment in the Demographic Opportunity Policies, the Population Projections report and the updated Higher Population Council Strategic Plan for (2015-2019) during the 4th coordination meeting for the Demographic Opportunity liaison officers. 

The importance of updating the "Demographic Opportunity Policies Document" stems from the expectation that Jordan is on the verge of a historic demographic change that holds a “Demographic Opportunity”. This opportunity is usually accompanied by various social and economic changes, which can take the form of challenges in case they are not employed appropriately. However, with preparation, planning and monitoring of these changes, it can be useful opportunities.

The demographic opportunity becomes evident when the work age population (individuals aged 15-64 years).
