On Thursday, HPC conducted the first workshop to draw up the national strategy for reproductive health and develop its conceptual framework for the next five years (2019-2023) with the participation of the relevant national entities.
The workshop aimed to define the strategic planning model, conceptual framework, themes and components of the national strategy for reproductive health; review the best practices and global models in the field of strategic planning related to reproductive health and population issues and determine future steps.
HPC’s Secretary, Dr. Abla Amawi, stressed that drawing up the strategy and developing its conceptual framework aim to provide a suitable and supporting environment for reproductive health issues in Jordan that helps achieve the well-being of citizens as well as the sustainable development goals 2030 on the national level, especially Goal 3 to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages” and purpose (3.7) “By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programs.”
Amawi stated that the Strategy is considered a key reference document that is based on the evaluation results for phase three of the national plan resulting from the national strategy for reproductive health/family planning for (2013-2018), building on the lessons learned therefrom and assessing the impact until the end of the period. This is in addition to maintaining the previous gains and achievements and examining obstacles in order to face and address them.
Amawi maintained that it is important to develop an accountability framework that relies on identifying the responsibilities and performance indicators on the level of the desired impact and outcomes. Furthermore, it is necessary for the strategy to be sensitive towards gender and different age groups and to adopt a participatory approach that connects outcomes with available budgets to ensure the desired output.
It should be noted that the conceptual framework relies on Jordan Vision “2020-2022”, the family planning strategy currently being developed by the Ministry of Health for (2019-2023), the outputs of the multisectoral Arab strategy for the health of mothers, children and teenagers that was launched and adopted by the League of Arab States and the regional conceptual framework for reproductive health that was developed by UNFPA - Regional Office and MENA Health Policy Forum as well as on the sustainable development goals and ICPD agenda.
