On Thursday, and in cooperation with the Knowledge Platform on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Project (Share-Net Jordan), The Higher Population Council held the annual meeting for project members from the various national public, private and voluntary bodies, international organizations and academic institutions.
The meeting aimed at sharing the achievements of the project in 2019 and its annual plan for 2020 with the members of the Share-Net Jordan project and discussing the outcomes of the conference recently held in the Netherlands on infertility and reproductive health rights axis in fragile / emergencies and conflict situations, in addition to announcing the small grants presented by Share-Net Netherlands for the year 2019.
Ali Al-Mutlaq, Director of the Studies and Policy Unit at the Higher Population Council and Coordinator of the Share-Net Jordan Project, reviewed the project’s most prominent achievements during 2019 and the project’s future aspirations. Al-Mutlaq noted that, in partnership with the project, the Council has implemented various round table meetings and training courses to build the capacity of partners, in addition to updating the Knowledge Platform’s website which aims to provide a comprehensive database of studies and research on population and development issues, including reproductive health/ family planning in both Arabic and English.
The Higher Population Council is the host of the Knowledge Platform on Reproductive Health in Jordan, which commenced in 2016, and will continue to the year 2024. The Council is also the national contact for Share-Net International to carry out its activities in Jordan through its local partners.
The project aims at creating an interactive online platform to support reproductive health research with the participation of stakeholders from different sectors, in addition to facilitating knowledge building and dissemination on reproductive health and building the capacity of key partners in identifying knowledge gaps. Moreover, and by means of this partnership, the Dutch institutions provide a number of grants to conduct researches and studies on various topics in Jordan through accredited research centers.
Share-Net was established by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a knowledge platform. Share-Net brings together the expertise of Dutch institutions, partners from Southern countries and international institutions working in the field of reproductive health, all in aims of strengthening the role of knowledge in building evidence-based policies and practices, in addition to ensuring the strategic use of resources to make the most of them at the local and international level in order to collaborate and create a platform that supports reproductive health research.
